All your lithium news, Tuesday September 13.
According to Schmidt Automotive Research, Chinese automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are expecting to deliver 200,000 car models across all types of drivetrains into Europe this year.
Between 80,000 and 90,000 are expected to be pure EVs and another 40,000 plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs), leaving the remaining 70,000 to 80,000 to be made up by traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
A total of 94,900 vehicles arrived in West Europe from China during the first seven months of 2022, with 60% either battery EV (BEVs) or PHEVs, resulting in 57,500 new West European registrations.
“Alongside the Chinese brands, over 100,000 BEVs have arrived from Chinese shores this year with Western badges on from the likes of Tesla (ModelY/3), Dacia (Spring) and BMW (iX3), emphasising the confidence the West now has in Chinese manufacturing,” the report says.
“A further 94,600 arrived with Chinese brand badges adorning the vehicles spread over almost 20 brands from Aiways to Zhidou.”

65 lithiums stocks finished in the green, 38 fell flat and 28 ended the day in the red.
Shares in CRR have jumped as high as 40% today on news of thick intersections of ‘exceptionally high-grade’ lithium oxide at Mavis Lake.
CRR says the results are the highest-grade lithium results in the project’s history.
Hole MF22-116 returned 24.1m at 1.62% Li2O from 53m, 8.15m at 1.70% Li2O from 89m including 1m at 4.32% Li2O from 91m and 8.70m at 2.18% Li2O from 112.75m.
These results confirm lithium mineralisation is extending east, building on significant intersections seen in 2017 and 2018.
Drilling continues at Mavis Lake with around 10,749m completed.
The phase 3 program excludes a recent HQ core program drilled to support the conduct of initial metallurgical test work.
GL1 is also out today with ‘the highest-grade lithium intersection returned’ at the Manna Lithium Project east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
The best intersection hit 5.7m at 1.82% Li2O from 136.7m including 4.3m at 2.08% Li2O from 136.7m and 0.4m at 3.65% Li2O from 136.7m.
A second drill rig has now kicked off at the project with the mineral resource estimate on track to be released in Q4, 2022.
“The two RC drill rigs will continue drilling on site until the true expanse of this developing lithium resource is outlined,” the company says.
Vulcan has started onsite construction of its Sorption-Demo Plant in Landau, Germany, following off site fabrication, which has been ongoing since March 2022.
The plant is being built on the premises of Energie Südwest AG (ESW), the local energy utility for Landau, after wrapping up FEED studies, mobilisation, and delivery of key components.
VUL says the plant is set to start cold commissioning in late 2022 and begin operation in early 2023.
