- Initial assays have been received from a recently completed 40-hole RC campaign
- Assays for the remaining 39 drill holes are expected in September
Special Report: Asra Minerals has reeled in a standout intercept of 14m at 7.49g/t gold from its initial RC drilling at the Leonora South gold project near Kookynie, WA, confirming the presence of shallow mineralisation.
These results are the first from the 3432m 40-hole drilling campaign at the Eclipse and Challenge prospects at the end of July.
The standout intercept is from hole NIC017, which intersected a broad, high-grade zone from a depth of just 12m at Eclipse.
Eclipse is an underexplored prospect close to the historic Orion and Sapphire gold mines which host a 48,000oz gold resource at 2.2g/t.
Asra (ASX:ASR) has sent composite samples for the remaining 39 drill holes to the lab with results expected in early September.
Results strengthen scale of Lenora South
ASR managing director Paul Stephen said he was encouraged by the first results.
“This exceptional outcome not only validates historic drilling but also reinforces our confidence in the potential scale of the Leonora South gold project,” he said.
“The use of assay techniques has given us confidence in the reliability of the results, and with assays pending for the balance of the program, we look forward to building on this momentum and updating the market as results are received.”
Of the 40 holes completed in the program, 23 for 2070m were at Eclipse while another 17 for 1362m were at Challenge.
Leonora South prospectivity
The majority of the program intersected predominantly mafic lithologies, interpreted as the Niagara Layered Complex (altered dolerite and gabbro), with intermittent felsic intrusives, which are reflective of the areas intruded.
These lithologies are consistent with early greenstone-hosted mineralisation systems within the Eastern Goldfields of WA.
Leonora South covers eight semi-contiguous mining licences over 549km2 of ground in the Leonora region, known for high-grade gold discoveries such as the nearby Ulyssess operation featuring 850,000oz of gold.
The Challenge and Eclipse prospects are within 200m of the 21,600oz at 2.1g/t gold resource at the company’s Sapphire deposit.
While waiting for the remaining composite assays, Asra plans to review geological logging as well as undertaking detailed collar surveys via DGPS to refine drill hole positioning ahead of the possibility of future resource modelling.
