• Reconnaissance rock-chip samples collected at the Vista Montana prospect have returned high-grade results of up to 2.62% copper
  • Sample results defined an area of anomalous copper 1km-long by 400m wide
  • Drilling continues at Lana Corina within the >3km prospective corridor

Special report: Strong assay results have confirmed the presence of a large, at surface, copper bearing system at Culpeo Minerals’ Vista Montana prospect, part of the Lana Corina Project in Chile.

Culpeo Minerals (ASX:CPO) is making massive strides in Chile, the world’s largest copper producer, after increasing its stake in the Lana Corina Project to 50% in April.

Lana Corina is a potential beast, currently containing high-grade copper associated with four known breccia pipes in the upper levels of a large, 3km long copper porphyry system.

CPO believes the geological setting of the project is analogous to Teck Resources’ Carmen de Andacollo mine, which has reserves of 250Mt at 0.62% copper and 0.25% gold, just 80km northwest.

Guy Le Page, director and responsible executive at Perth-based financial services provider RM Corporate Finance, has earmarked CPO as a major re-rate opportunity on the back of hits over 2-3km of strike, including a headline drill intercept of 257m at 1.10% copper equivalent from 170m.

Copper assays in rock chip samples

The copper explorer is continuing to refine its exploration strategy with recent reconnaissance rock chip samples defining an area of anomalous copper over 1km-long by 400m wide at Vista Montana.

Results have returned up to 2.62% copper and will be followed up with geological mapping and further systematic sampling planned for the coming months to aid drill targeting.

CPO Managing Director Max Tuesley says achieving such high-grade copper results from first-pass surface sampling over a 1km-long by 400m area is an extremely promising outcome.

“We will continue to refine our exploration model with the addition of further sampling and mapping to develop targets for the first phase of drilling at the Vista Montana Project,” he says.

Looking ahead

Meanwhile, drilling continues at Lana Corina within the >3km corridor which hosts both the Vista Montana and Lana Corina prospects.

Multiple exploration programs are ongoing at the Lana Corina and Fortuna projects.
