Critical continues to build its lithium footprint in the “Electric Avenue” region of northwest Ontario, Canada, with the staking of a further 1,200 hectares of land.
The ground expands the Plaid and Whiteloon Lake projects where pegmatite mineralisation has been observed that follow the same northwest/southeast trend as Frontier Lithium’s PAK, Spark and Bolt deposits.
PAK is one of North America’s highest-grade, high tonnage hard rock lithium resources with a Measured and Indicated resource of 10.49Mt averaging 1.78% Li2O, and an Inferred resource of 18.48Mt grading 1.45% Li2O.
Critical Resources (ASX:CRR) already has aggressive works programs well underway to identify drilling targets.
“It is positive to be developing work programs in such a prospective region in Ontario. The region’s deposits in the locality represent some of the largest hard rock lithium deposits in North America,” managing director Alex Biggs said.
“Our desktop studies have concluded similarities between the Projects and some of the deposits nearby which warrant further studies and exploration, particularly the trend of pegmatites.
“For now, we are waiting for the snow to melt, and expect to be performing work on the ground throughout the summer months.”
Exploration work
Surface mapping and sampling will assist in the identifying and mapping of pegmatites in detail, which will provide invaluable information that will assist in identifying drill targets for future campaigns.
This will be supported by an airborne survey along with channel sampling, which was a key technique used by Frontier Lithium.
A successful explorer in the Ontario region, shares in the Canada-listed Frontier have risen by around 1,600% over the past two years.
Along with the airborne survey, the channel sampling process will provide greater geological and mineralogical information about pegmatite deposits at the site.
A preliminary drill program will then target areas of interest, to determine the geometries of geological structures and mineralisation constraints, CRR said.
