Cavalier Resources has had early success with an extensive soil geochemical program at its Ella’s Rock project in Western Australia, unearthing three target areas returning anomalous lithium, caesium, and tantalum (LCT) from shallow samples in a region where fresh lithium discoveries continue to be made.

Cavalier Resources (ASX:CVR) Ella’s Rock project is definitely in the right neighbourhood for a significant LCT discovery, with the project located south of Wesfarmers’ (ASX:WES) high-grade Mt Holland lithium hydroxide project.

The company has uncovered multiple LCT bearing geochemical anomalies at Ella’s Rock, where 1,810 surficial soil samples were taken over 8,000 hectares that has never been drill tested.

“Located south of the Wesfarmers Mt Holland high-grade lithium hydroxide project, it is important to note that these new LCT trends and targets remain untested by drilling, underscoring the significant untapped potential that lies within the Ella’s Rock project area,” executive technical director Daniel Tuffin said.

Analysis shows three LCT bearing geochemical target areas – Hooper, Fitzgerald and Baché – covering a combined 350 hectares.

A fourth anomaly, Ella’s Trend, represents a 12km long and up to 1km wide anomalous LCT trend, encompassing the central Fitzgerald target.

Given the early-stage nature of the discovery and the fact the area is underexplored, Tuffin said Cavalier would be taking a methodical approach to exploration of this potentially valuable find.

“We are still in the early stages of exploration of the area, but the implications of these findings from the shallow soils program are highly promising,” he said.

“In light of these findings, the company will now focus advancing our exploration efforts toward testing the potential for LCT bearing pegmatites in the region via further detailed groundwork, meticulous planning and acquisition of further permits to prepare for the crucial next step – drill testing these anomalous LCT bearing targets.”

Cavalier’s Ella’s Rock project consists of four exploration licences covering an extensively large area to the east of the Forrestania Greenstone Belt.

The Belt also hosts the historic Diggers Rock open pit nickel mine, IGO’s (ASX:IGO) planned Diggers South underground nickel mine and Cosmic Boy nickel plant, as well as Classic Mineral’s (ASX:CLZ) new Kat Gap gold mine.

Importantly, mapping of the main lease central and southern leases indicates the presence of greenstone lithologies in an area previously interpreted to be predominantly granite.

The greater project area is underexplored with minimal drilling, providing Cavalier with potentially significant lithium, gold and nickel exposure in the Forrestania region, diversifying and boosting the value of its tenement portfolio outside of the Leonora region.

Cavalier is working to fast track an environmental survey to target drilling before the end of the year.
