Special Report: Buxton Resources has moved a step closer to drilling at the Lateron project in WA after defining and de-risking three high-priority targets for intrusive-related copper-gold mineralisation.
The targets were identified via detailed 3D geophysical modelling using new ground gravity data, high-resolution magnetics and passive seismic surveying.
Together, these datasets have narrowed down the location of several discrete magnetic features, some sitting as shallow as 77.5m below surface.
It’s a strong convergence of geophysical evidence that gives Buxton (ASX:BUX) far greater confidence heading into drilling and adding even more weight to the story is petrographic work.
New petrographic evidence has confirmed the presence of magmatic amphibole and titanite, two minerals typically associated with large magmatic-hydrothermal copper-gold systems.
The samples also contain pyrite and chalcopyrite, indicating that sulphide mineralisation is present.
With all the technical groundwork complete, Buxton is finalising a Heritage Protection and Land Access Agreement with the Tjurabalan Native Title Lands Aboriginal Corporation.
Once the agreement is in place, heritage surveys can begin, paving the way for drilling to kick off in 2026.
Background on Lateron and exploration portfolio
The Lateron project consists of exploration licence E80/5545, about 150km south of Halls Creek in WA’s Kimberley region on the western border of the Tanami Province.
Exploration is targeting magnetics anomalies covering >7km2 of that ground.
With the appointment of Martin Moloney to managing director last month, Buxton is confident his deep technical understanding and strategic vision will help guide the company through its next phase of growth across its WA exploration portfolio.
Along with Lateron, the company’s projects also include the Centurion asset where a new tenement application recently expanded the footprint to >667km2.
Following news of highly encouraging pathfinder assays, Buxton’s new exploration licence application covers key strike extensions to the Centurion drill target along with several magnetic features.
A significant gravity anomaly is also situated within the expanded project footprint.
Geophysical surveying to map depth-to-basement and inform follow-up drill planning is underway, with results expected later this month.
