These excellent metallurgical test work results at the Andover Project in WA’s Pilbara region also returned 25.5% copper with 77% recovery.
Azure Minerals (ASX:AZS) managing director Tony Rovira says this is a big step in the right direction for the Ridgeline deposit, where a maiden mineral resource estimate is being prepared.
Step in the right direction
Metallurgical test work is now complete, using the same flow sheet and technical specifications as for the Andover deposit, which is a “big step in the right direction” according to Rovira.
“This also augers well for mineralisation discovered at other prospects on the project,” he adds.
“The metallurgical test work provides Azure with sufficient technical data and confidence to continue with the scoping study and move the Andover Project towards a development decision.”
Result details
Metallurgical and comminution test work for both the Andover and Ridgeline Deposits was undertaken using the same process flowsheet so the amenability of the mineralisation from both deposits will be processed using the same methodology.
This allows for a hub and spoke mining and processing model to be deployed at the project, where ore from multiple sources would be processed through a single process plant.
Comminution test work was completed by ALS Global (ALS) and the flotation test work was completed by Strategic Metallurgy for all samples.
A single representative ‘master’ composite sample from the Ridgeline Deposit was prepared to complete initial metallurgical and comminution testwork.
Excellent results were received, with separate nickel and copper concentrates produced – the nickel concentrate graded 13.0% at a recovery of 80% and the copper concentrate graded 25.5% at a recovery of 77%.
Looking ahead
Locked cycle test work, fine grinding test work of both nickel and copper concentrates to improve grades, and drilling of metallurgical holes through the Andover project to obtain representative LOM samples for larger scale bench test work are among some of the planned activities for the next phase of development.
