Buru’s JV with Sipa Resources looks to have borne fruit with drilling at their Barbwire Terrace project in Western Australia’s Kimberley region intersecting zinc and lead mineralisation.

Portable XRF returned several +1% zinc+lead readings including a maximum reading of 19.8% zinc+lead at a down-hole depth of 413.5m in hole BWTDD003 – the second completed during the current program.

While XRF is no replacement for laboratory analysis, it often provides a good picture of what is present.

Adding further interest for Buru Energy (ASX:BRU), visible disseminated galena was observed over a continuous 38m interval, containing two zones with up to 5% sulphides (galena, sphalerite and pyrite).

Drilling of the second hole is now completed with the rig now relocating to drill the third hole.

Drill program

The joint venture’s drilling, which is co-funded to the tune of up to $180,000 by the Western Australian government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, tests one portion of its extensive tenement holding, which is highly prospective for lead-zinc mineralisation.

Barbwire Terrace has a geological setting analogous to existing lead-zinc deposits along the Lennard Shelf on the north-eastern margin of the Fitzroy Trough, which are hosted in the Pillara Limestone unit.

Drilling to date has intersected significant thicknesses of the target dolomitised limestone unit in both completed holes, along with extensive hydrothermal alteration and elevated levels of base metals.
