South Koreans are running around in a tizzy after extreme weather wiped out crops of cabbages, the key component of their much loved kimchi.

Typhoons, floods and landslides have left families scrambling to find affordable cabbages to combine with chilli, garlic and other ingredients to turn into their favourite pickled vegetable.

And with South Koreans eating more than 2 million tonnes of kimchi each year, that’s a lot of cabbages.

With that little food tidbit, here are the small caps that spiced up the markets this week.

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS

Resources and Energy Group (ASX:REZ) +193%

Chart topper Resources and Energy Group has intrigued investors after drilling at the Gigante Grande prospect of its East Menzies Gold Field project returned a ‘bonanza’ grade gold hit of 1m at 76.4 grams per tonne (g/t) included in an interval of 20m at 5g/t from a 66m mineralised zone starting at just 71m.

The Gigante and Kota Paxi prospects were initially identified as a result of auger soil sampling completed by Goldfields Exploration, operating as Paddington Gold in 1997.

This work outlined a number of gold-in-soil anomalies of over 60 parts per billion over an interpreted granitic body.

Further results are pending from the 32-hole program.

Emerge Gaming (ASX:EM1) +145%

Shares in eSports company Emerge Gaming (ASX: EM1) jumped after announcing it secured more than 3 million pre-registrations for its MIGGSTER mobile platform.

The platform offers subscribers the opportunity to win prizes by competing in tournaments.
