It was a historic week in Australian soccer, with news that the Matildas would be inking a deal that would see them earn the same pay as that of the Socceroos, their male counterparts.

The deal will make the Matildas the world’s first female team to be guaranteed the same money as the men’s team, and with good reason: the Matildas are currently ranked eighth in the world, compared with the Socceroos’ ranking of 44.

ASX SMALL CAP WINNERS

Egan Street Resources (ASX:EGA) +59%

An improved takeover offer made Egan Street the biggest mover this week, with its shares rising 59 per cent to 50c.

You can read the history of suitors lining up for Egan Street here, but the crux of it is that $970m Silver Lake Resources (ASX:SLR) has now increased its offer consideration to 46.1c per share, which implies a $63.2m total transaction enterprise value.

Kibaran Resources (ASX:KNL) +40%

Shares in Kibaran rose 40 per cent to 9.8c on news it wants to build a $33.1m graphite processing plant in Kwinana, WA, for global lithium-ion battery customers.

It says that crucial test work confirms the effectiveness of its proprietary ‘EcoGraf’ purification process. Kibaran — which is changing its name to EcoGraf — now has enough info to finalise the all-important process flow sheet design.

ECS Botanics (ASX:ECS) +32%

Thursday was a busy day for major retailers doing deals with small caps, and ECS Botanics rose 32 per cent to 5.8c after announcing Woolies would be selling ECS’ hemp oil in 850 stories from the start of next year.

Assisting with distribution will be Just Foods Australia which manages brands including Pepsi, Cadburys, Oates and Ansell.

ASX SMALL CAP LOSERS

Tubi (ASX:2BE) -51%

The week’s biggest faller, industrial pipe maker Tubi, shed half its value this week after issuing a profit downgrade.

The company believes demand for its pipes in the North American petroleum sector is likely to decline, so it has adjusted plans for its industrial plants in Texas.

Tubi had forecast pre-tax earnings of $6.1m and statutory earnings of $9.5m. Now it anticipates these figures to be $1.8m and $100,000 respectively.
