The day ahead

The All Ordinaries index of small to mid-cap ASX shares surrendered some of its gains Wednesday to close at 7,158 points, down 0.4 per cent on the day.

Mid-week saw several important ASX companies report earnings results including supermarket group Coles and iron ore miner Rio Tinto.

America’s main stock indexes continue to trade at near record levels with the blue chip Dow Jones index at 31,522 points at its Tuesday close.

US oil prices ticked over the $US60 per barrel mark for the West Texas crude benchmark.

Lead cryptocurrency Bitcoin had another good day, rising to $64,000 in Australian currency, ($US50,000) and is double its price at Christmas.

Coming up on Friday, the US Congress gets to vote on the latest government stimulus package worth $US1.9 trillion for the US economy.

US 10-year bond yield prices have woken up recently and were trading at 1.3 per cent, a level last seen just before the global economy fell into its March precipice.
