The day ahead
Domestically today, it’s the main event on this week’s data calendar with the release of September employment figures from the ABS (11:30am eastern).
The median forecast is for 15,000 jobs to be added, with the unemployment rate holding steady at 5.3 per cent.
Also this morning, RBA deputy governor Guy Debelle is scheduled to give a speech in Sydney at 9:15am (eastern time). And with the title of “Housing and the Economy”, Debelle’s speech is likely to get plenty of attention among market analysts.
Elsewhere, the two-day EU Summit will kick off later tonight, amid ongoing Brexit negotiations ahead of the looming October 31 deadline.
And there’s a raft of data out of the US, with housing starts and building permits for September, along with industrial production figures and the Philly Fed’s monthly manufacturing index.
