Rise and Shine: Everything you need to know before the ASX opens

It’s Monday morning (or at least, it will be by the time you’re done reading this), which means that everyone should be at peak enthusiasm, with a big, wide week of ASX action all about to unfold before us.

Huzzah! etc.

But, as the old adage goes, it’s vitally important that we remember to look before we leap, and that applies equally to murky, fast-moving waterways that may or may not be teeming with crocodiles, as it does to investing on the ASX, which is slightly less likely to be filled to the brim with hungry, prehistoric-ish carnivores who would love nothing more than to eat you whole.

So, to aid you in remaining unconsumed by roving crodilians, the Stockhead team has been very hard at work, putting metaphorical pen to paper after much (where appropriate) beard-stroking and careful pondering of all the facts before us.

For instance, Josh Chiat has been chatting with Gavin Wendt, founder of MineLife and respected resources analyst, who has some alarming news on how many more mines we’re going to need. Soon. (Hint: It’s more than we can make.)

Likewise, Nadine McGrath has run her very tidy ruler which has never been written on or used in a game of splits over the ASX and its August performance. And it can go straight to back of the class, sit in the corner, and face the wall.

And, as always, here’s all the bits and pieces to bring you up to speed before the ASX doors fly open, and the fun begins again.

WHAT GOT YOU TALKING

That scurrilous scamp we all know as The Secret Broker is at it again, sharing the wisdom he has amassed over thousands and thousands of years, and bringing us an important lesson: It’s a terrible idea to be Dutch.

Friday’s Small Caps standouts were:

Desert Metals (ASX:DM1) up at lunch over 150% and ending at a respectable 129%, after some happy results from recent aircore drilling at Dingo Pass, which show the Krakatoa Resources (ASX:KTA) clay hosted rare earth element (REE) mineralisation extends all the way into DM1’s licence area.

The company says  says KTA’s good news heads at least 9km into Desert Metals’ territory, after drilling returned samples of this nature:

  • 3m @ 4512 TREO from 21m, Hole DGAC 059
  • 4m @ 3700 TREO from 21m, Hole DGAC 017
  • 12m @ 1363 TREO from 24m, incl 3m @ 2078 TREO from 24m, Hole DGAC 081
  • 17m @ 1101 TREO from 21m, incl 3m @ 1988 TREO from 21m, Hole DGAC 010

An unexpected winner from all this is vanadium minnow Tivan (ASX:TVN), which gained 20% because these are the green venture dudes which ex-central banker and now ex-Fortescue guy, Guy Debelle left on Friday for. Debelle is a big fish for a little company.

Well… they’re on the map now.

The ASX-newcomer Australian Critical Minerals (ASX:ACM) announced earlier this week its maiden exploration program has been successfully completed at the Cooletha lithium project in the Pilbara.

ACM stock is continuing a confident rise on the “highly encouraging mineralisation, including visible spodumene sites and manganese mineralisation”.
