Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s on the wrong side of Venetians today?

Venice is one of those tourist hot-spots that is facing a backlash from locals.

Now the Venetians’ are fining millennial backpackers for making their own coffee, it’s clear it’s war.

Yes, two German travellers were fined $1515 for making coffee using a travel cooker right beside the Rialto Bridge. Locals reported them to the police.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said: “Venice must be respected and those impolite people who come here and do what they want must understand that.”

Tourists are now charged a tax to enter if they want to do a ‘day trip’ – it’s included in hotel rates but if you don’t stay, you pay.

Pah. Venice:

Much more appealing today is the ASX Small Ords, being up 0.42 per cent to 2,970. And the ASX 200 is up 0.80 per cent to 6,779.

But the figure everyone will be talking about is the ASX All Ords (the top 500 stocks on the ASX by market capitalisation), which briefly reached its pre-GFC high.

Going up

Xanadu Mines (ASX: XAM) rose 20 per cent after announcing drilling had begun at its Kharmagtai copper-gold project.

Betmakers (ASX: BET) jumped as well after a positive quarterly and earnings guidance.
