Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s not happy about emulating Harry Potter today?

New York may be one of the most expensive markets for accomodation but the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ rings true nonetheless.

26-year-old Zoe Reeve was visiting the Big Apple from Britain and booked this Airbnb. But judging by her reaction on her social media accounts as well as to the media, she didn’t do her homework enough.

It was sad when Harry Potter spent his pre-Hogwarts childhood in a cupboard. But when a grown adult pays for it without knowing what they’re getting themselves into – many people’s frowns go upside down.

The saying ‘you get what you pay for’ may not apply to our markets though – at least today. The ASX Small Ords gained 0.39 per cent to stand at 2,848 points while the ASX 200 lost 0.09 per cent to sit at 6,598 points.

There was a tonne of data this morning. The Melbourne Institute’s inflation for August came in at 1.7 per cent – although only the ABS’ quarterly figures are recognised by the RBA.

ANZ job advertisements fell 2.8 per cent in August and companies’ gross operating profits rose 4.5 per cent quarter on quarter.

While another round of US tariffs on China came into effect overnight, our markets won’t be hit by any aftershock from Wall St until at least Wednesday, markets are shut overnight for Labour Day.

Going up

BPH Energy (ASX:BPH) is getting into cannabis and it doubled after announcing its initial investment.

Victory Mines (ASX:VIC) jumped 50 per cent, although it’s still only 0.3c. It has provided shareholders with a company update.

Base metals explorer St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) climbed 18 per cent after intersecting nickel-copper sulphides at its West Australian project.
