For the first time since 2006, Cristiano Ronaldo won’t play a Champions League semi-final after Ajax knocked Juventus out on the same night Lionel Messi destroyed Manchester United’s hopes.
Also in back to reality news, on the ASX this morning, the biggest news surrounded paint company Dulux Group (ASX:DXL) (of “if it’s worth doin’, it’s worth Dulux’ fame”) agreeing to a takeover deal from Japanese paint giant Nippon, which valued the company at $3.8 billion and sent its shares rocketing 29 per cent to $9.87, comfortably an all-time high.
It is the second time in a week that a giant cap has moved on the back of takeover news following Crown Resorts’ (ASX:CWN) 22 per cent rise after an approach from US casino giant Wynn Resorts, though shares have since tapered off after Wynn got cold feet.
The ASX Small Ords was down 8.7 points or 0.3 per cent to 2,809.5 at 12pm AEST.

Mental health tech company Medibio (ASX:MEB) got a much-needed boost with shares rising 14 per cent to 1.6c this morning on news it had partnered with Department of Biomedical Sciences of Humanitas University in Milan, Italy. The two will work together to further develop Medibio’s mental health software products.
It gets shares off year-long lows following a tumultuous year.
Mineral Commodities (ASX:MRC) has unearthed high grades of graphite that it says will be good for the economics of its Munglinup project in Western Australia.
The latest drilling program has hit grades of up to 49.3 per cent total graphitic carbon (TGC) from 54m. Investors liked the news, pushing shares up from yesterday’s close at 17c to hit 19c this morning.
New board appointments — coming soon after a reveal that one of its strategic advisers had lied about his qualifications — impressed shareholders of Neurotech (ASX:NTI).
Three new people were hired, and shares shot up 100 per cent to 1.4c.
Freedom Oil & Gas (ASX:FGM) rose 21 per cent to 7.5c after announcing the initial 30-day production average rate from six new horizontal wells drilled on its Eagle Ford acreage in Dimmit County, Texas: a gross rate of 733 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Fintech Chain (ASX:FTC) yesterday rocketed 133 per cent to 14c on news that it has helped facilitate $83.4 million in transactions on its partner China Merchants Bank’ network on a limited trial basis in four selected Chinese provinces.
But it fell back to earth a little bit today, shedding 25pc to 10.5c at lunch.
