Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Thursday Sep 13:

The ASX Small Ords was up 0.9 points or 0.03 per cent to 2,819 at 12.40pm AEST.

GOING UP

More than $1.7 million worth of shares in Food Revolution Group (ASX:FOD) changed hands this morning as fund managers Perpetual and SG Hiscock picked up a cornerstone stake in the business.

The news sent FOD shares flying to an intraday high of 12.5c, an increase of 44 per cent on the company’s closing price of 8.7c yesterday.

Venture capitalists The Victorian Clean Technology Fund sold down 40 million shares in the company for $2.16 million, going from 15.3 per cent of the register to 5.7 per cent.

Fund managers Perpetual and SG Hiscock picked up a “cornerstone stake”, although neither are substantial shareholders.

The entrance of institutional investors into a small cap’s register is big news, as it provides validation that the company is big enough and growing well enough to spark the interest of large money managers.

Energy storage company 1414 Degrees (ASX:14D) climbed 27 per cent this morning to an intraday high of 28.5c after issuing a generic company update.

1414 Degrees listed on Tuesday at its offer price of 35c, but slid immediately and closed at 22.5c. The company raised $16.3 million in its IPO.

But it climbed back up today after telling investors “attending a recent conference in the United States led to increased interest from global markets”.

Argosy Minerals (ASX:AGY) hit an intraday high of 25c this morning, a rise of 22 per cent, after success in its attempts to create a battery-quality lithium carbonate product.

Last month, Agrosy shares jumped 50 per cent when it reported that it got 99.6 per cent pure lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE).

The company bettered that today, saying it has achieved 99.8pc LCE content value.

Gold explorer Kairos Minerals (ASX:KAI) jumped 19 per cent today to an intraday high of 3.8c after it released an announcement about gold nugget discovery in ALL CAPS.

The company said it had found 256 gold nuggies in a previously unexplored prospective geological sequence that extends for a further 5km.

Kairos shares jumped back in May when it found a 643,000-ounce resource in the Pilbara.

GOING DOWN

Fluctuation continued at Pancontinental Oil & Gas (ASX:PCL), with more than 15 million shares trading hands (for about $150,000) as the company dropped 10 per cent to an intraday low of 0.9c.

This was the same pattern as yesterday, though on lower volumes.

The company’s only news was a presentation on the exploration potential of Namibia; yesterday the company said it had potentially more than one billion barrels of oil under Namibia’s sea.
