Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: who’s having a blinder today

Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Thu Oct 18:
The ASX Small Ords index was flat, losing a minimal 1.3 points to touch 2,710.6 by 12.30pm AEST.
HIV-fighter Biotron (ASX:BIT) has been knocked out of the top movers today.
Flexiroam (ASX:FRX) led the pack at midday after breaking even for the first time since listing in 2015, in the September quarter. They were in the black by only $84,000, but it was enough for investors to get really excited.
Boss Jef Ong says he’s “optimistic” about the coming year.
Memphasys’ (ASX:MEM) share price spike has sent them into a trading halt, as the ASX queries what was behind it.
While over at eSense Labs (ASX:ESE), somehow their stock is rising on the back of an ASX query. The company was forced to say the magic deal that sent its share price spiralling on Wednesday had only earned $US18,000 — and still the stock climbed.
The advancer at number 6 today was a tiny company called Serpentine (ASX:S3R) which was up 33 per cent, albeit to 0.1c. It is trying to claw back $4.4m from the Canadian who brought the company to the ASX and then bought the guts of the company — but never paid.
It is widely bandied around as a possible blockchain stock because the Canadian, Neil Patel, wants to turn the assets he took from Serpentine into a blockchain play. Alchemia (ASX:ACL) is also flying, another shell long rumoured to be a target for a backdoor blockchain listing.
If blockchain really is on the rebound, it may be useful to keep an eye on crypto stocks again.

Among the decliners, the only ones with real news were Niuminco (ASX:NIU) and Wangle Technologies (ASX:WGL) — and both of those were yesterday.
Both were victims of a bounce on Wednesday and what looks to be profit-taking on Thursday, after the miner provided up update on gold-bearing veins in PNG and the tech venture relaunched its family cyber security software.
