If you happen to be from Melbourne, like the author of today’s lunchtime wrap, then there’s a good chance you had a miserable moment caught out in Melbourne’s wet and cold streak at the weekend.

Around the state of Victoria were stories of wild weather, from junior football games played in snow, to snowmen in suburbia, to months’ worth of rain falling in just a couple of days.

But while it appears the outlook is getting warmer, the ASX Small Ords was chilly, down 4.4 points or 0.15 per cent to 2,871.2. And the ASX 200 was down 0.3 points to 6,584.1.

Going up

News that Red Mountain Mining (ASX:RMX) is set to break into the lucrative heavy rare earths market has sent its shares up 50 per cent to 0.6c

The company has entered a three-stage earn-in and joint venture agreement with Unearthed Resources, which owns the Mt Mansbridge project in Western Australia.

You also might see Emperor Energy (ASX:EMP) leading the way with an astonishing 1,400 per cent gain: but that’s due to a 15-to-1 stock consolidation.
