In the US Capitol, a “slow-moving blob of something” on radar screens – initially believed to be an unauthorised aircraft — triggered a lockdown of the White House. Military jets were scrambled.
Turns out it was probably a flock of slow-moving birds, or a big cloud.
Then there’s this gem:

Things are looking decidedly less ‘rocky’ on global markets this morning. US share markets hit fresh record highs on Wednesday “as stronger-than-forecast economic data pointed to a resilient economy ahead of the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday”, according to Commsec.
The local bourse followed suit, with the ASX200 up 0.27 per cent heading into midday trade at 6,869.30 points.
The ASX Small Ords posted a 0.39 per cent gain to 2,922.50 points.
Terry Streeter-chaired Corazon Mining (ASX:CZN) was up 50 per cent after adding a new nickel sulphide deposit to its Lynn Lake nickel-copper-cobalt project in Canada yesterday.
The explorer is now sitting on a tidy 116,800t of nickel, 54,300t copper, and 5,300t cobalt.
Chilean lithium explorer BMG (ASX:BMG) jumped 50 per cent after confirming that brine is present at ~0.7m below surface at its Pajonales project.
Samples have been submitted for analysis, and BMG is anticipating results in December.
Beleaguered dental stock Smiles Inclusive (ASX:SIL) had good news today — three long standing litigation matters associated with the closure of the Smiles Onsite mobile business in October 2018 have been successfully resolved “and the associated litigation will be withdrawn”.
“We are now focused on full recovery of the business which will occur progressively but should be in full operation by the end of February 2020,” Totally Smiles chief exec Tony McCormack says.
The stock – which has fallen about 88 per cent over the past year – recovered some of those losses in morning trade.
And investors responded positively to a project feasibility study from US-based coking coal explorer Allegiance (ASX:AHQ).
Allegiance – which is up 103 per cent so far this year – said with “such convincing feasibility study results, Allegiance intends to expedite completion of the acquisition of the New Elk coking coal project with a view to returning it to production in mid 2020”.

Yesterday, Bougainville Copper (ASX:BOC) received a speeding ticket from the ASX after it rocketed from 13c to 49c per share in five days.
The company said that “the referendum currently being held in Bougainville (this week) may have attributed to increased confidence in the region”. But the run didn’t last – the stock fell back to 28c in morning trade today.
