Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: Who’s celebrating their “Nigelness” today?

Here’s an alarming trend — the decline in the number of children called Nigel.

Now there’s a bunch of Nigels doing something about it. British pub landlord Nigel Smith got 430 Nigels — some locals, others  as far away as Australia — to promote their names.

But this was not a Nigel-only affair. So-called “non-Nigels” went along and certified it as a Guinness World Record. One non-Nigel even ‘popped the question’ to a Nigel.

Today, the ASX Small Ords is up 0.31 per cent to 2,900 while the ASX200 is flat – only up 0.01 per cent to 6,717.

Tomorrow the Reserve Bank’s will meet and decide on interest rates. More and more economists are predicting interest rates will be cut to 0.75 per cent according to a Bloomberg survey.

Going up

Change Financial (ASX:CCA) led the charge of stocks today. Having finished its Mastercard payment processing platform it had gained 64 per cent by 12pm.

Paradigm Biopharmaceuticals (ASX:PAR) jumped 17 per cent after announcing its drug inhibits nerve growth factor in the bone cells of osteoarthritis sufferers.

Its rare to see a large cap jumping like this but Nufarm (ASX:NUF) is up 27 per cent after selling its South American crop protection operations to Sumitomo for nearly $1.2 billion.
