Lunchtime ASX small cap wrap: who’s blowing up today

Here are the key ASX small cap winners and losers at lunch Thursday Sep 6:
The ASX Small Ords was down 42 points or 1.5 per cent to 2,812.4 at 12.40pm AEST.
GOING UP
Consolidated Zinc (ASX:CZL) was on the move again, up another 8 per cent to an intraday high of 1.6c.
Yesterday the miner closed at 1.4c, after hitting 1.6c during the day when announcing it had started mining at its Plomosas zinc, lead and silver site in northern Mexico. Today CZL issued an update, saying the project was now fully funded.
Niuminco Group (ASX:NIU) doubled to 0.2c this morning, telling investors that exploration at its Edie Creek mine revealed increased gold silver potential.
It’s welcome good news for the ASX junior, which earlier this week revealed it received a wind-up notice, lost two exploration permits and was facing cash flow issues.
The backroom antics continue at Empire Resources (ASX:ERL) which is facing yet another board spill as a major backer demands the troubled gold miner call a meeting to vote out directors.
Investors sent the stock up 8 per cent to 1.3c.
Michael Ruane, who holds a stake of almost 9 per cent, through two of his associated companies – Tyson Resources and Kesli Chemicals – has served Empire with a “249D” notice to give shareholders the opportunity to vote out the four-director board.
Keep your eyes peeled.
It’s been a good week for gold explorer Breaker Resources (ASX:BRB). On Tuesday the company told investors its Bombora gold deposit continued to return high-grade results, and today revealed a 74 per cent increase in contained ounces of gold.
As a result Breaker gained 33 per cent on yesterday’s closing price, rising to 30c. Back in February Stockhead columnist Barry FitzGerald said Breaker was one of most appealing gold stocks.
