The Tasmanian thylacine has been extinct for over 80 years, or so they say. But in the last three years one state government department has received eight reports of sightings in the Tassie wilderness.

One cyclist reckons they spotted one on a “misty, overcast day”.

“As I live in a rural area of Mudgee, I am accustomed to coming across most animals working on rural farms, etc … but I have never come across an animal anything close to what I saw in Tasmania that day.”

Dramatic. However, all of these are just hearsay evidence – the department doesn’t think they’re good enough to investigate.

Today on the markets, the ASX Small Ords is up 0.74 per cent to 2,872 and the ASX 200 is up 0.65 per cent to 6,695.

This came despite the Westpac-Melbourne Institute Leading Index falling from -0.24 per cent to -0.92 per cent in September. Perhaps the markets believe there will be another interest rate cut, but Westpac now believes it’ll happen in December.

Going up

Roots Sustainable Agricultural Technologies (ASX:ROO) announced its cooling technology helped double its yield of cannabis flowers. It’s up 13 per cent.

Bass Metals (ASX:BSM) also gained 13 per cent off the back of strong graphite production at its Madagascar mine.

Predictive Discovery (ASX:PDI) fell off 17 per cent off the back of a capital raise.
