Lunch Wrap: Who’s in great danger today?

Is our Reef dying?

Not according to Environment Minister Sussan Ley, who rejected UNESCO’s decision to put the Great Barrier Reef on the World Heritage “in danger” list.

And she’s now got the backing of 11 countries, who said the decision was politicised by China, also saying that it’s “the best managed reef in the world”.

What’s at stake? Around $6 billion of tourism trade every year.

Back to the markets, the ASX finished 0.30 per cent lower at the halfway mark.

All except three sectors were in the red, with Tech leading the way and rising by 2.5 per cent.

Energy and utilities were the main drag, losing 1 per cent each.

Afterpay (ASX:APT) rose by 7 per cent after making an after-hours announcement last night.

The company said it’s making its service available to select app customers at the most popular and largest merchants in the US.

This includes Amazon, CVS, Dell, Kroger, Macy’s, Nike, Sephora, Target, Victoria’s Secret, Walgreens and Yeti – a group of merchants that represent almost half of all US ecommerce volume.
