Small cap companies dipped on Tuesday, even as the broader Australian market rose slightly.

The Small Ordinaries index of 100 small cap companies was down 0.3 per cent to 2,967.4, while the benchmark ASX200 index rose 0.2 per cent to 6,498.2

The Emerging Companies microcap index was up 0.9 per cent to 1,812.6.

Australian Agricultural Projects (ASX:AAP) was the biggest winner on Tuesday, its shares rising 150 per cent to 3.5c. In a response to an ASX price query, the company had no explanation for the price rise beyond a weeks-old quarterly update.

MSL Solutions (ASX:MSL) rose 30.6 per cent to 9.8c after the SaaS technology provider for the sports, leisure and hospitality sectors acquired point-of-sale software company SwiftPOS for $4.25 million in cash and $500,000 in shares. The Brisbane-based company is Australia’s leading hospitality and point-of-sale systems solution, and MSL has been its largest reseller in Australia.

MGC Pharmaceuticals (ASX:MXC) was flat at 2.2c after reporting positive pre-clinical in vitro (test tube) research into using cannabinoids to treat the aggressive brain tumour glioblastoma. The research is being conducted at a neurosurgery department at a university in Slovenia.

Volpara Health (ASX:VHT) gained 1.5 per cent to $1.37 after the Kiwi breast density software company announced an online breast density training tool in collaboration with DetectED-X. The module will help radiologists comply with the Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System.

Mobilicom (ASX:MOB) rose 17.7 per cent to 10c after the communication solutions company announced its data link technology had been chosen for integration into FLIR Systems’s (NASDAQ:FLIR) fleet of drones. The volume of the order isn’t material at this stage, Mobilicom said, but it expects additional purchase orders.
