Last Orders: The ASX rebounds after yesterday's 1pc+ drop

After falling by more than 1 per cent yesterday the ASX rebounded today.

The ASX Emerging Companies Index rose by 0.85 per cent to 2,082 points while the ASX 200 rose 0.83 per cent to 6,834 and the ASX Small Ords rose 0.32 per cent to 3,174.

The best sectors were energy and materials while industrials was in the red.

Today’s biggest winner was fintech company Peppermint Innovation (ASX:PIL) which nearly tripled as it re-entered the ASX.

Food company Bega Cheese (ASX:BGA) announced a long running dispute with Fonterra was over and it can use the Bega trade mark on products outside the scope of the licence between it and Fonterra without Fonterra’s consent.

Not many ASX stocks have connections to English Premier League clubs but AWN Holdings (ASX:AWN) is now one of them. AWN subsidiary VivoPower has become Tottenham’s official battery technology partner for the upcoming season. VivoPower will undertake Tottenham’s stadium and training centre to explore options to further reduce its carbon footprint.

Telco carrier Field Solutions (ASX:FSG) was awarded $950,000 in funding by the NSW Cross Border Commissioner to build expand its network coverage along the NSW and QLD border.

Mining services company Babylon Pump & Power (ASX:BPP) announced the acquisition of Ausblast, which provides high pressure water blasting. Babylon will pay for the company with $4.4 million in cash, $1 million in Babylon shares and a deferred milestone payment of a further $1 million.

Stemify (ASX:SF1) told shareholders it would not be receiving milestone payments for its MyStemKits business (an online library with STEM curriculum content) it agreed to sell to Boxlight Corporation. It blamed COVID-19 induced school closures in the United States.

Mark Creasy-backed nickel explorer Galileo Mining (ASX:GAL) announced its first drilling program of the year at its Fraser Range project was underway. Initiall drilling results are expected to take approximately 10 days to finish.
