ASX small cap wrap: who climbed the highest last week
News
Microcap air purifier Purifloh (ASX:PO3) pulled off the investment coup of the year this week, selling a chunk of itself to a US billionaire at almost five times its share price.
American businessman Bill Parfet paid $9.6 million for 4 million Purifloh shares at $2.40 a pop.
The stock was fetching just 50c at the start of the week.
Purifloh — which has no revenue – is best known for developing a mailbox-sized air purifier that eliminates tobbaco smoke and kills airborne diseases like Anthrax.
Open-mouthed investors threw more than $700,000 at the stock on Wednesday, pushing the price up to $2.17 — a 334 per cent jump. It closed the week up 341 per cent at $2.05.
“The market was clearly caught by surprise,” Mr Lill told Stockhead. “I’m not sure the ASX has ever seen anything like this before. It is a testament to the strength of our technology.”
Elsewhere, investors were eagerly awaiting an announcement by industrial cable maker Energy Technologies (ASX:EGY) after it more than quadrupled in value before going into a trading halt.
The stock jumped 350 per cent from 0.2c to 0.9c before telling investors an announcement was expected on Monday.
Fatfish Internet Group (ASX:FFG) — which is soon to be renamed Fatfish Blockchain Limited — gained 47 per cent to 2.5c for the week despite a lack of news.
“Although this is simply a change of company name, it importantly signifies Fatfish’s long term dedication and focus on seeking highly viable blockchain and cryptocurrency ventures,” boss Kin Wai Lau said last month.
“The change of name to Fatfish Blockchain Limited is also important in gaining awareness among new investors who are seeking investments in the Blockchain sector.”
Despite the collapse of bitcoin earlier this year, blockchain — which provides an underlying technology for digital transactions — has been gaining some traction among ASX investors with the successful recent floats of Identitii (ASX:ID8) and Security Matters (ASX:SMX).
China-focused eCargo (ASX:ECG) gained 30 per cent to 15c for the week after buying the remainder of Jessica Rudd’s ecommerce business that it didn’t already own.
Ms Rudd, the daughter of former prime minister Kevin Rudd, first sold 45 per cent of her business Jessica’s Suitcase to eCargo in January and was paid stock totalling 15 per cent of the Chinese tech group.
eCargo exercised an option to acquire the other 55 per cent within 18 months for $5 million and 53 million shares — taking Ms Rudd to a maximum of 19.9 per cent.
eCargo also bought 85 per cent of supermarket wholesaler Metcash’s (ASX:MTS) export division, which includes a China subsidiary, for up to $13.4m.

Investors bailed out of air traffic controller Adacel (ASX:ADA) after the loss of a US Federal Aviation Administration contract prompted a profit downgrade on Friday.
The stock fell 43 per cent to 88c for the week.
Adacel makes advanced simulation and training solutions and operational air traffic management systems. In February this year it won a $4 million contract to modernise Fiji’s Nadi Airport air traffic.
Investors were told on Friday that profit for the first-half would be “65 to 70 per cent lower” than the $3.5m Adacel reported for the same period last year.
First-half performance was impacted by the loss of a US Federal Aviation Administration contract for field support to a new entrant in the US.
