While punters wait it out as major sporting codes across the globe go on hold, news of an unexpected comeback has turned a few heads this week.

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has been linked with a potential return to the ring, 15 years after his last professional fight.

Tyson is 53 now — not historically known as a prime age for boxers. But based on recent training footage, the former “baddest man on the planet” (and part-time ear aficionado) looks like he’s still got it:

One opportunistic promoter tried to lure Iron Mike down to Australia with a $3m offer to lace up the gloves again. But it appears that even larger numbers are being thrown around for a potential US fight.

For his part, former Aussie boxing champ Jeff Fenech told the SMH Tyson could still cause some serious damage if he stepped back in the ring.

To markets now, and local stocks continued their relatively sanguine week (by COVID-19 standards) as the ASX200 edged higher into midday trade after two straight falls.

The Small Ords Index outperformed again, posting a gain of 1.42 per cent to 2,422.10 points — its highest level since March 11.

Alliance Resources (ASX:AGS) continued the recent run of outperformance for small-cap gold explorers.

Shares in the company more than doubled up after it announced results from a reverse-circulation drilling program at the Weednanna gold deposit on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.

The program “identified significant intersections of high-grade gold”, Alliance said.

The company said it now plans to upgrade the mineral resource estimate for gold and iron ore at Weednanna, and “commence feasibility study level assessment of the commercial viability of the deposit”.
