As Australia continues its curve-flattening efforts, the federal government’s COVIDsafe tracking app officially went live last night.

The app uses Bluetooth technology to track and notify people who have come into contact with a person that’s contracted COVID-19.

The goal is to notify people who may be at risk of passing the virus on without knowing, but the launch of the app also came with privacy concerns about government overreach.

However, more than 1 million Aussies have already downloaded the app — a success rate health minister Greg Hunt said the government was initially hoping to achieve by the end of the week.

On markets, the ASX got off to a flat start before finding some momentum into midday trade.

Sentiment was more bullish on the ASX Small Ords index, which climbed by almost 2 per cent while the ASX200 was up around 0.5 per cent.
