ASX Small Cap Lunch Wrap: Who’s ramping to the moon today?
News
ASX small caps had a rampish vibe to start the week, as a number of junior tech players got speeding tickets from the ASX after mooning higher on no news.
Those outsized gains took place amid some positive sentiment more broadly, as the major indices all rose by around one per cent to start the week.
Shortly after midday AEST, the ASX200 was around 0.9 per cent while the microcap Emerging Markets Index was almost two per cent higher.
As a secondary economic indicator for Australia’s post-COVID recovery, JB Hi-Fi provided a bullish contribution after announcing that net profits in the six months to December surged by 86 per cent, with momentum continuing into January.
Looking at the week ahead, key data in Australia will be led by January employment figures on Thursday.

The stock has subsequently gone into a trading halt pending a response to an ASX price query.
Biotech company Bard1 LifeSciences (ASX:BD1) also continued its strong rally after the company released more data on the capacity of its SubB2M treatment to detect cancer.
The stock opened last week at 68c and is now trading at $2.60, following news that SubB2M showed a strong capacity to detect breast cancers (as well as ovarian cancers).
Penny stock Fargo Enterprises (ASX:FGO) (formerly FlamingoAI) also ticked higher on no news, telling the ASX it wasn’t aware of any developments that would prompt a 60 per cent surge in morning trade.
And FutureFirst Technology (ASX:FFT) rounded out the list of tech players ramping for no reason, surging by 57% before going into a halt of its own this morning.
For resources investors, don’t worry — there were still plenty of big gainers in the mining space. Reuben Adams has the best daily wrap in the business here.
