It’s the start of a new investing week — no better time to repeat the mantra:

“One should strive to be as good at picking ASX small caps as Rafael Nadal is at playing tennis on clay.”

The Spaniard put on another clinic overnight, easily dispatching old rival Novak Djokovic to win his 13th French Open title.

With the US election moving into focus abroad and lingering COVID-19 concerns in Melbourne and Sydney, the ASX200 traded flat into midday trade on Monday.

That’s perhaps not surprising given the local index itself had a case of the Monday blues, as the ASX’s new website got off to a glitchy start.

But in further possible evidence of the post-pandemic small cap boom, the ASX Emerging Companies Index ripped higher by almost two per cent.

Penny stock Multistack International (ASX:MSI) was up and about again on no news.

The ~$6m market cap minnow, which develops and sells engine-cooling technology, surged higher by almost 200 per cent in morning trade.

That followed a speeding ticket from the ASX last Thursday after a separate 100 per cent surge. After closing on September 29 at 0.8c, MSI shares were trading above 5c heading into midday trade.

Also at the top of the winner’s list was Azure Minerals (ASX: AZS), which jumped more than 50 per cent after announcing “significant nickel and copper mineralisation” after the first drilling program at its Andover project in WA’s West Pilbara region.
