33 seasons in, The Simpsons is showing no signs of leaving our screens anytime soon.

However, producer Al Jean has given hints as to just how that day might eventuate.

Jean gave an interview with Radio Times and hinted it would be a “grand finale” of sorts, with the family going back to the Christmas pageant that kicked off the first episode of the series back in 1989.

However, fans of the iconic four-fingered family needn’t hold their breath.

“I don’t see anybody going, ‘Let’s wrap it up, or figure out how to get out of it’ at the moment,” he said.

In fact Jean said he might keep it going until it reached 1,000 episodes, which would take until 2033.

But it would still be an ending someday. And speaking of things that’ll end someday – record low interest rates are another.

This week the RBA released its board minutes and Governor Phil Lowe gave a speech on inflation.

While Lowe said he still doesn’t think rate hikes are coming in 2022, he noted inflation was so far looking better than expected and tipped the rate-hike point to come by the end of 2023 (although he added a delay until 2024 was plausible too).

On markets, the ASX 200 was trading around 0.4% lower heading into midday trade.

Big banks — which make up about a quarter of the index — were the main drag, as CBA fell sharply in the wake of its reporting season results.

Resources stocks were also lower, with heavier falls for the gold majors. But the ASX 200 Information Technology index outperformed, with a gain of more than 1.5%.
