• Contract for Geophysical Survey of pipeline routes awarded to Gardline
  • Mobilisation of the Gardline Vessel to occur in September
  • Results of the geophysical survey will form a critical component of the Environmental Statement

In another step towards UK gas development, Hartshead has awarded a contract for the geophysical surveying of favoured pipeline routes.

Gardline was chosen to carry out the in-situ geophysical investigation and laboratory test work of the preferred export routes within the Anning and Somerville sites in the UK Southern Gas Basin.

The pipeline route survey is a critical step in Hartshead Resources’ (ASX:HHR) wider plans to develop sustainable energy infrastructure while prioritising safety and environmental preservation.

From the company’s point of view, the survey results will ideally form a critical component of the Environmental Statement along with a detailed understanding of the seabed conditions to assist in the eventual pipelay.

Progressing towards financial investment decision

This is all part of Hartshead’s progression towards a final investment decision on Phase 1 development at the Anning and Sommerville gas fields that have a combined 2P Reserves of 301.5Bcf.

Six production wells will be connected to two wireline capable Normally Unmanned Installation platforms and, from there, to Shell’s infrastructure for onward transportation and processing for entry into the gas network.

Peak production is estimated to be about 140 million standard cubic feet per day, or 56MMcfd net to Hartshead, with first production expected in 2025.

FID is expected in the current quarter with project financing already secured through a farm-out with North Sea oil and gas producer RockRose Energy.

Development going smoothly

Hartshead CEO Chris Lewis said the team is dedicated to working closely with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that the pipeline project meets the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

RockRose Energy has struck a farm-in agreement with Hartshead Resources to acquire a 60% working interest in Production Licence P. 2607 containing the Anning and Somerville fields in the UK north sea.

RockRose parent company Viaro Energy is currently preparing the application for the operatorship of the fields and expects the FID to go equally smoothly later in the year.

“We have been very happy with the progress made on the development of Anning and Somerville so far,” Viaro Energy CEO Francesco Mazzagatti said.

“The efficiency with which the NSTA approved the deal, recent important milestones met and this securing of the geophysical survey are a testament to the capabilities of both the Hartshead and Rockrose teams.”

What’s next?

Hartshead CEO Chris Lewis said the team is dedicated to working closely with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that the pipeline project meets the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

It is expected that the MV Ocean Observer, an 80.4 metre Multi Role Survey Vessel, will be used for the work program.

The Ocean Observer will be mobilised to the Anning and Somerville field locations to begin the pipeline survey in September 2023.
