Global and its partners are poised to spud the high-impact Sasanof-1 gas and condensate well with the arrival of the Valaris MS-1 rig at the North West Shelf site.

The semi-submersible rig is currently being anchored into place before drilling begins on the well, which targets a best estimate (2U) prospective resource of 7.2Tcf of gas and 176MMbbl of condensate.

Global Oil and Gas (ASX:GLV) added that while the rig was under tow, support vessel Far Senator continued logistical support operations, mobilising drilling mud, bulks and supplies from the Port of Dampier.

Sasanof covers 400km2 and is on trend and updip of operator Western Gas’ liquids-rich, low CO2 Mentorc Field.

The prospect is a large, seismic amplitude supported, structural-stratigraphic trap in the high-quality reservoir sands at the top of the Cretaceous top Lower Barrow Group formation on the Barrow Delta within the Exmouth Plateau.

Sasanof-1 will be the operator’s first well drilled from its extensive exploration portfolio surrounding the existing Equus gas project where it has enjoyed a historical drilling success rate of 88%.
