Global and its partners will soon know how successful their Sasanof-1 well in the offshore Carnarvon Basin is with the rig preparing to drill through the target reservoir sand section.

Installation of the marine riser and well control Blow Out Preventer (BOP) has been completed, connecting the Valaris MS-1 semi-submersible drill rig to the Sasanof-1 High Pressure Wellhead Housing (HPWHH), and the system is currently being pressure and function tested.

Once this is completed, the bottomhole drilling assembly will be run in hole to drill out the shoe track cement and integrity tests will then be conducted before drilling of the target hole section from the current depth of 2,072m is carried out to a total depth of 2,500m.

Global Oil and Gas (ASX:GLV) expects the target reservoir sand section to be drilled over the weekend.

Sasanof-1 targets a large, seismic amplitude supported, structural-stratigraphic trap in the high-quality reservoir sands within the Exmouth Plateau that could host about 7.2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 176 million barrels of condensate.

It is operator Western Gas’ first well drilled from its extensive exploration portfolio surrounding the existing Equus project, which has a discovered resource of 2Tcf of gas and 42MMbbl of condensate.
