Brooklyn-based start-up, Amogy Inc, has demonstrated the first-ever ammonia powered, zero emissions 100kW tractor.

The company’s ammonia-to-power technology was successfully integrated into a John Deere mid-size standard tractor, which was “driven for separate periods with a refuelling session in between.”

The system converts the energy-dense chemical into hydrogen, which then powers a 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell.

Amogy says the system is comprised of a standard liquid-storage tank and highly efficient ammonia-cracking modules integrated into a hybrid fuel cell system, providing consistent primary power for several hours before refuelling.

The tractor demonstration was made possible by the rapid scaling of Amogy’s technology platform following its two funding rounds in 2021, Seed and Series A, which were supported by Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund, AP Ventures, and DCVC.

Amogy has since achieved a twenty-fold increase in the power capacity of its technology over the past year.

This first heavy-duty vehicle demonstration and scalability of Amogy’s solution underscores the viability of the platform to support the decarbonisation of the broader heavy-duty transport sectors, including trucking, shipping, and more.

“Decarbonising the transportation sector remains a challenge in the global journey to net-zero emissions, with few alternative fuel and power options available for heavy-duty vehicles operating in the ground mobility and cargo shipping industries,” Amogy CEO Seonghoon Woo
said.

“As we continue our work to lead innovations in ammonia-based fuel solutions, the Amogy team believes this demonstration and future ones, including Class 8 trucks and shipping vessels to be demonstrated in the next 12 months, will accelerate the adoption of ammonia as the next generation fuel to replace polluting diesel engines.”

Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX)

BSX is focused on building an integrated upstream and downstream battery metals processing business in Vietnam that produces NCM Precursor products for Asia’s growing Lithium-ion battery industry.

In a resource drilling program at the company’s flagship Ta Khoa Nickel Project in northern Vietnam, the company has identified massive sulphide vein (MSV), semi-massive sulphide vein (SMSV) and net-textured sulphide mineralisation.

The Suoi Phang prospect intersected 2.95m of sulphide with portable XRF readings in drill hole SP22-01, which indicates the presence of up to 20% nickel.

At the Suoi Chanh prospect, the second drill hole SC22-02 intersected SMSV consistent with the Blackstone electromagnetic targeting.

BSX managing director Scott Williamson said this marks an exciting phase of exploration for the company as it starts look at massive sulphide opportunities in addition to established resources.

“Suoi Chanh is yet another example of our in-house geophysics teams proven track record, with success being achieved from the second drill hole.”
