The week ahead
Local markets will digest a busy calendar of data this week to kick off the new month.
The headline event will be the RBA’s monthly policy meeting on Tuesday, where analysts will be watching closely for any changes to the bank’s outlook in the wake of the US Fed’s big announcement on Thursday night.
Elsewhere, preliminary data will start flowing through on Monday and Tuesday before the release of Q2 GDP figures on Wednesday (the data will show a “historic fall” Westpac says, but markets already know that).
There’s also monthly house price data from CoreLogic on the schedule this morning, trade balance figures on Thursday and July retail sales data on Friday.
Looking abroad, monthly US employment figures for August will headline the international data calendar on Friday night.
