The day ahead

Key economic data today will be led by Q1 wage growth figures from the ABS (11:30am EST).

The median forecast is for quarterly growth of 0.5 per cent, although Westpac doesn’t expect to see any impact from COVID-19. “Wages are usually slow to respond to labour market shifts,” the bank’s economics team said.

Westpac’s monthly consumer confidence survey is also due out, which is expected to remain subdued after sentiment suffered a pandemic-driven collapse in April.
