- ClearVue’s Solar Façade can offset between 74% and 125% of a building’s yearly energy requirements
- The company’s Solar Vacuum-Insulated Glazing reduces internal surface temperatures by up to 7.74 degrees more than traditional windows
- Payback period of 4.6 years, lowered to 2.6 years with HK Government Feed-in Tariff subsidies
Special Report: The Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has produced a glowing report on a trial installation of ClearVue solar façade products, concluding the technology pays for itself within a 4.6-year period.
That payback period falls even further when taking into account Feed-In Tariff subsidies available from the HK Government, which would reduce the payback period to just 2.6 years.
ClearVue Technologies (ASX:CPV) interim CEO Douglas Hunt said the results were remarkable, demonstrating the significant impact CPV’s Solar VIG can make in building a sustainable urban environment.
“The short payback periods make deploying our solutions a logical choice,” he said.
“Combined with our existing fire testing results, the successful completion of this trial with the Hong Kong Government’s EMSD is a major validation of our technology.
“The results are outstanding, proving that our solar glazing and further the full integrated solar façade can deliver significant energy savings and generate power, directly addressing the twin needs of sustainable building design and energy efficiency.”

Government-verified case study
The HK EMSD applied the study results to 40-storey buildings in 15 different cities, using a 50% window-to-wall ratio as the base case.
The combined benefits of ClearVue’s integrated Solar Façade resulted in a 74% to 125% offset of a building’s yearly energy requirements, offering a high-impact solution for emissions reduction.
The integrated system included specialised Insulated Glass Units (IGU’s) with vacuum-insulation technology from Land Vac, ClearVue’s strategic partner.
CPV’s Solar Vacuum-Insulated Glazing (VIG) achieved superior thermal performance compared to standard glass windows, reducing internal surface temperatures by 7.74 degrees Celsius.

“The Hong Kong market is a key target for ClearVue, and these results provide a powerful, government-verified case study for architects, developers, and building owners in the region,” Hunt continued.
“Our collaboration with LandVac on this project also showcases our ability to create best-in-class products by combining our unique PV technology with other leading innovations.
“We look forward to leveraging these fantastic results to drive commercial opportunities in Hong Kong and other key markets across Asia.”
ClearVue’s VIGs will be monitored for another 12 months, after which they’ll remain permanently installed at EMSD headquarters.
CPV will use the report’s findings and resulting official certification to accelerate its commercialisation efforts through a newly minted Hong Kong-based subsidiary, alongside the existing research and development joint venture with LandVac.
