ClearVue partners with LandGlass to drive photovoltaic glazing tech

  • ClearVue signs MOU with LandGlass subsidiary LandVac to establish strategic partnership
  • Partnership aims to co-develop and promote next-generation solar powered vacuum glazing tech
  • Tech to be sold through both LandGlass and ClearVue distribution channels

Special Report: Smart building innovator ClearVue Technologies is set to form a strategic partnership with LandGlass Technology Co subsidiary LandVac to research, develop, manufacture and commercialise a new class of solar vacuum insulated glazing (Solar VIG) products.

ClearVue Technologies (ASX:CPV) has signed a non-binding 12-month memorandum of understanding (MOU) to form a strategic partnership with LandVac, with a new joint venture (JV) company to be based in Hong Kong.

The JV company will hold the intellectual property (IP) for all newly co-developed innovations with both parties contributing their respective tech, expertise and global networks to the partnership.

The JV will receive a 3% royalty from ClearVue and LandVac for use of shared IP and will focus solely on R&D and IP management, not sales or marketing.

LandVac is known for its high-performance, vacuum-insulated glass (VIG), which provides energy efficiency, sound insulation and anti-condensation properties. Made with titanium and advanced sealing technology, the product is distributed in over 50 countries.

The company has established a global patent array, covering the entire life cycle of the product, including core raw materials, manufacturing processes, production equipment, quality inspection and terminal applications, forming a complete IP protection system.

LandGlass has invested tens millions of dollars, eight years of R&D and holds more than 1000 patents on its products.

ClearVue will exclusively use LandGlass’s VIG tech for solar applications, while LandGlass will exclusively use ClearVue’s building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology in any solar-enabled VIG products it markets or sells.

ClearVue said partnering with LandGlass positions the company at the forefront of smart glazing innovation and was strong validation of its technology in both its current and next generation products soon to be released.

‘Game-changing energy savings in glass’

Vacuum glazing delivers excellent insulation (U-Value) and acoustic performance.

ClearVue said combined with its power production and lower solar heat transmission (SHGC) means “game changing energy savings in glass”.

The ability to deliver this performance with a lower weight also reduces the embedded carbon in the building structure.

The new solar VIG range will feature glazing products that combine thermal insulation and solar energy generation and will be co-branded and marketed through both ClearVue’s and LandGlass’s established global distribution networks and licensees.

‘New benchmark for building energy conservation’

LandGlass founder Yan Zhao said he was honoured to sign the strategic MOU with ClearVue.

“We expect the Solar VIG series of products to combine high-efficiency thermal insulation performance with ClearVue building integrated photovoltaic technology to set a new benchmark for building energy conservation.

“This cooperation will not only reshape the industry landscape but also accelerate the global progress in achieving carbon neutrality goals through green building materials.”

Sharing the same, clear vision

Douglas Hunt, who has been appointed ClearVue interim CEO following some executive changes at the company, said he was also excited to sign the MOU with LandGlass.

“This agreement marks the next step in a collaboration that began in 2023, he noted.

Hunt emphasised, too, that ClearVue’s BIPV tech is uniquely compatible with vacuum insulated glazing.

“LandGlass and ClearVue share the vision of developing the world’s most thermally efficient building materials that also generate energy.

“Our technical and engineering team are looking forward to working with LandVac’s team to bring advanced solar VIG solutions to market that will reduce the carbon footprint of buildings around the globe.

“The first combined product testing of our VIG solar glass was deployed into the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Hong Kong Government.

“For this trial in Hong Kong, the VIG components were manufactured for us by LandVac.”

Results of this trial will soon be published in a report by EMSD and with ClearVue anticipating excellent results.

“With LandVac’s manufacturing excellence and global distribution reach in over 50 countries, we are confident the combined solar vacuum insulated glazing, spandrel, and cladding solutions will deliver strong global appeal and commercial success,” Hunt added.
