Buddy Technologies (ASX:BUD) was one of the biggest movers on the ASX this morning after unveiling another range of smart lights.

Buddy’s existing LIFX White Smart range of lights can be controlled by remote systems such as Alexa and can create general light patterns in consumers’ houses.

But Buddy’s new lights, LIFX Clean, emit light in a way that has a disinfecting effect.

The process (called porphyrin excitation) involves emitting light at a wavelength of 405 nanometres, which is high enough to kill germs.

LIFX Clean will cost $99 and be on the market from next quarter.

While this product has not yet proven itself against COVID-19 (or other viruses), the company says it is in the testing queue for the former and will update shareholders accordingly.

But it has passed efficacy tests, conducted by Swinburne University of Technology, to ensure they are non-hazardous.

A whole new category of smart lighting

CEO David McLaughlin said this product could be the most important yet towards making “every space smarter”.

“LIFX Clean is a ground-breaking product that we believe will help create a whole new category of smart lighting, one that we intend to lead with a combination of innovation and relentless pace,” he said.

Buddy shares climbed over 25 per cent this morning and are up over 500 per cent this quarter.
