V-Con is Stockhead’s investing focused video conference series, bringing you expert insights, panel discussions and presentations from leading analysts, listed small caps and industry players. This latest video conference focuses on gold.

There is a place in any portfolio for gold.

It is held by central banks, has a long history of being an investment grade product in the wider community, and tends to perform well in a ‘risk-off’ environment.

It is also an ‘inflation hedge’; an investment that ostensibly protects the buyer from decreased purchasing power of a currency due to rising prices.

Which is happening right now, everywhere. Goehring & Rozencwajg Associates managing partner Leigh Goehring says that we are “getting closer to the explosion of gold prices to the upside”. Other experts agree.

Meanwhile, gold stocks are cheap at current prices, with valuations remaining weak despite falling debt and record dividends from the majors.

Gold bulls like Rick Rule believe that the ASX precious metals sector is currently a value investor’s dream.

“At current gold prices – not higher gold prices – these companies are all selling at prices that are as cheap as I have ever seen them in my career,” he says.

“And if the gold price goes up — which I think is going to happen — that is icing on the cake.”

Speaking with a handful of emerging companies making waves in the sector, along with industry experts, Stockhead finds out what’s in store for gold in 2022.
