• TG Metals has hit high grades of lithium up to 2.68% at Jaegermeister
  • Newly intersected pegmatites display similar characteristics to Burmeister
  • Planning for the next round of drilling is underway

Special Report: Initial RC drilling at TG Metals’ Jaegermeister prospect confirmed multiple lithium pegmatites at shallow depths, displaying size characteristics similar to Burmeister.

TG Metals (ASX:TG6) has confirmed Burmeister as a significant lithium deposit during the June quarter with an exploration target of 15.6-20.1Mt and a grade range of 0.97% to 1.19% Li2O.

The deposit sits within the wider Lake Johnston project, down near Esperance in a region which holds the promise to become WA’s new lithium mining district.

The Lake Johnston area is home to its namesake greenstone belt with lithium from hard rock sources in the form of spodumene-bearing pegmatites scattered around the place, something TG6 has found in abundance at the project site.

Up to 5,000m of drilling has been in progress following the grant of approvals in June, designed to test Jaegermeister targets.

Spod-bearing pegmatites with widths up to 10m

That program has so far returned an impressive assay result of 2.68% Li2O after completing 19 holes for a total 2,347m.

Multiple intersections of spodumene-bearing pegmatites with high grades of lithium and widths up to 10m have been confirmed, including:

  • 10m at 1.19% Li2O from 73m;
  • 6m at 1.38% Li2O from 76m; and
  • 3m at 1.22% Li2O from 49m as well as 3m at 1.24% Li2O from 63m.

TG6 says the results now provide confidence that the company has at least two areas of high-grade lithium mineralisation at Lake Johnston.

Strong potential for standalone lithium project

“Multiple lithium pegmatites have been defined at Jaegermeister, at relatively shallow depths displaying size characteristics very similar to the nearby large Burmeister deposit,” TG6 CEO David Selfe says.

“The results enhance the potential for a standalone spodumene lithium project with the pegmatites appearing to be thickening towards the west, an area that will be a priority target for the next round of drilling at Lake Johnston.”

What’s coming up?

The results point to a pegmatite system much larger than what has been drilled to date, open in all directions, with an apparent thickening of the pegmatites towards the west.

Pegmatites at Targets A and B have only been tested to shallow depths (relative to the nearby Burmeister deposit), with the deepest pegmatite interval intersected in this campaign being at 202m, with most others at less than 100m depth.

Drilling of Targets C & D intersected granitic lithologies, not previously mapped.

Further geochemical analysis and drilling will be required to fully test these targets.

Infill drilling at Burmeister has also been conducted, assay results are expected in the next few weeks.
