• SS1 produces up to 13,199ppm antimony from historic core at Maverick Springs
  • The project could become a domestic producer of the critical mineral
  • Antimony is used in defence, semiconductor and battery applications

Special Report: Sun Silver has produced up to 13,199ppm antimony from historical drill core and RC chips from its Maverick Springs project in Nevada, USA.

The timing couldn’t be better, as the US looks to bolster domestic supply off the back of China imposing export restrictions in the critical mineral, which is used in defence applications, semiconductors and clean-energy storage batteries.

The company says all five historical drill holes tested to date using pXRF analysis have returned high-grade Antimony (Sb) readings up to 13,199ppm.

In addition, seven drill holes from current 2024 and 2008 drill campaigns have also returned anomalous antimony showings, with assay results over 10,001ppm (1%) Sb over 1.52m – and anomalous antimony results up to 1.3km apart have been identified.

Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) says the presence of antimony across all holes tested to date warrants further investigation of the antimony potential at Maverick Springs.

Potential domestic (US) antimony producer

Analysis is ongoing across historic and current drill material to determine the full extent of antimony mineralisation at the project.

Results from the current drilling program – which returned up to 1,845ppm – will be sent to an independent laboratory for accurate analysis, while Sun Silver continues to determine if historic drill material is suitable for additional laboratory analysis.

“We are excited to announce that historical drill core and RC chips from the Maverick Springs Project has produced high-grade antimony readings reaching up to 13,199ppm from our pXRF analysis,” SS1 executive director Gerard O’Donovan said.

“The extensive data from historical drill holes will be leveraged to further substantiate the potential of the deposit to host this high-value critical mineral alongside its extensive silver and gold endowment.”

In response to the urgent US demand for antimony due to upcoming Chinese export restrictions, the company is actively working with Holland & Knight to explore funding opportunities with the US Department of Defense.

This urgency is driven by impending restrictions on antimony exports from China, which will disrupt supply chains crucial for national security and defence applications.

China and its allies Russia and Tajikistan account for a total of 90% of world antimony production.

“This initiative positions us to advance the Maverick Springs Project and address the need within the US for this critical mineral,” O’Donovan said.
