• Sun Silver will start a 7500m RC drilling campaign at Maverick Spring next week
  • The program will encompass both infill and extensional drilling
  • Drilling will focus on a recently defined high-grade target zone

Special report: Sun Silver has put the finishing touches on its 7500m drill campaign at the Maverick Springs gold-silver project.

Nestled within Nevada’s Carlin trend among majors including Barrick Gold and Newmont’s world class Nevada Gold Mines JV and Kinross’s 3.7Moz Bald Mountain gold mine is Sun Silver’s Maverick Springs asset.

Maverick Springs has an inferred resource of 292Moz of contained silver equivalent at 72.4g/t, making it one of the most significant silver resources on the ASX.

That already includes 175.7Moz of silver and 1.37Moz of gold, an impressive bounty in its own right.

The previous owners completed ~200 holes for ~60,000m of drilling covering just 20% of the property, leading SS1 to believe there’s more to the resource than currently meets the eye.

The deposit is also ideally placed to be developed given its locale just 85km from the Nevada town of Elko, a service hub for Barrick’s Carlin mine.

Program of 7500m just seven weeks after IPO

The explorer – having only listed on the ASX seven weeks ago – has wrapped up the drill plan for its inaugural campaign at the site.

Consisting of 7500m of reverse circulation drilling, SS1 says the program will be a mix of infill and extensional targets.

It will kick off on July 8 based on historical data and recent fieldwork which focused on the north-west boundary of the resource and beyond where a recently defined high-grade target zone has returned spectacular grades such as 303.08 g/t silver over 54.86m from 202.69.

An earthworks contractor has completed minor preparatory works including the construction of drill pads and access roads, improving access routes, establishing laydown areas, and setting up a water bore for exploration activities.

Rig mobilised to site and ready to drill

“We’re delighted Alford Drilling has mobilised to site,” SS1 executive director Gerard O’Donovan says.

“With the drill rig now onsite and ready to drill, just seven weeks since IPO, it’s a testament to the hard work completed by the entire team.

“The geological team’s thorough assessment of technical data and topography at Maverick Springs has defined specific drilling targets and pad locations,” he says.

“Based on these assessments, the program is targeting high-grade zones interpreted to trend to the northwest.”
