• Sun Silver’s maiden drilling campaign returns grades of up to 332g/t silver
  • Results continue to confirm the highly prospective nature of Maverick Springs
  • The company continues to test its endowment ahead of resource upgrades

Special Report: Step-out drilling continues to deliver at Sun Silver’s Maverick Springs asset in Nevada, USA, as results confirm the highly prospective nature of the north-west section of the project area.

Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) has been focused on drilling in the north-west section of Maverick Springs, 85km from the fully serviced mining town of Elko, surrounded by several world-class gold and silver operations including Barrick’s Carlin Mine.

As well as a previous stand-out intersection of 106m grading 54g/t silver, the latest batch of results using portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) readings included a tasty intersection of 73.15m at 75g/t silver from a down-hole depth of 249.94m in hole MR24-199.

While pXRF results cannot be used to quantify resources, they do allow for real-time analysis of drill samples and confirmation of mineralisation in the field.

That in turn enables immediate on-site decisions on any necessary adjustments to drilling strategies by suggesting where significant accumulations of the target mineral could be found.

Prospectivity confirmed

New intersections of silver mineralisation include grades of up to 81g/t over a width of 21.34m from 265.18m down-hole based on pXRF readings in hole MR24-200, with internal grades of up to 332g/t over 1.52m recorded from 268.22m.

MR24-200 is located ~90m from historical drilling and assay results will be included in future resource updates, along with the other successful extensional drill holes completed as part of the company’s inaugural 7,500m drilling program.

These results continue to confirm the highly prospective nature of the north-west section of the project area, where drilling is ongoing.

‘Silver rich area’

“We are very pleased that the drill rig continues to deliver, intersecting strong zones of silver mineralisation in the north-west outside of the current resource,” SS1 executive director Gerard O’Donovan said.

“We now have significant confidence that this is a silver-rich area of the project and look forward to continuing to test its endowment with the drill rig and including these results in future resource upgrades.”
