• Strategic Energy Resources has received drilling approvals to conduct a 25-hole RC program at the Achilles prospect
  • Achilles is 7km south of AGC’s Achilles 3 polymetallic discovery
  • The program will kick off over the coming weeks

Special report: Strategic Energy Resource has won approval to begin testing the Achilles polymetallic prospect within the South Cobar project in NSW.

Strategic Energy Resources’ (ASX:SER) South Cobar project sits on the eastern margin of the Rast Trough at the southern end of the Cobar Basin, one of the richest polymetallic regions in Australia.

The project’s tenements capture the northern and southern extensions of the Woorara fault, along strike from Eastern Metals’ (ASX:EMS) Brown’s Reef deposit, while the Achilles prospect lies on the Achilles Shear Zone with Australian Gold & Copper’s (ASX:AGC) Achilles 3 discovery about 7km to the north.

SER submitted a drilling permit application to the NSW Department during the quarter for a 40-hole RC campaign to test the strong polymetallic soil anomaly defined by historical soil data.

The explorer believes the recent drill results by AGC – which returned up to 5m at 16.9g/t gold, 1,667g/t silver, 0.4% copper and 15% lead-zinc – demonstrate the potential for the South Cobar region to hold multiple discoveries.

Drilling to begin over the coming weeks

With a drill permit granted by the NSW Regulator, SER plans to begin an extensive RC drill program at the western edge of the most southern traverse, which coincides with the peak soil geochemical anomaly before moving north along successive traverses which are spaced 300m apart.

Drilling will begin over the coming weeks and is anticipated to take up to six weeks.

Historical diamond drilling at Achilles has shown that the stratigraphy dips to the east and recent discoveries at Federation and Achilles 3 have shown that primary mineralisation may not lie directly beneath the highest geochemical anomaly.

25-hole RC program at Achilles

“We are pleased to announce that a drilling permit has been received to test the Achilles Polymetallic soil anomaly at South Cobar,” SER managing director Dr David DeTata says.

“The original twenty-five drill hole program has been revised and expanded to include up to forty drill holes along five traverses which now extend beyond the Achilles hill.

“This revised program will ensure that the entirety of the current soil geochemical anomaly will be tested and allows for the drill program to be adjusted without further delays to obtain additional permits in the event mineralisation is intersected.”
