Special Report: Rock chip sampling continues to prove up the high-grade tenor of antimony, gold, copper and silver mineralisation at Riversgold’s Saint John project in New Brunswick, Canada.
Multi-element analyses of the latest 20 samples taken from the very limited surface outcrops in a 25km zone of felsic intrusions returned high-grade results with rock chips from the roadside quarry at the Little Lepreau prospect returning a top hit of 41.6g/t gold and 26.8g/t silver.
At the Prince of Wales prospect, rock chips from a quarry and roadside cutting returned 8.99% copper and 42.6g/t silver as well as 240g/t silver while the Hideaway prospect returned a 1.74% copper and 3.38g/t silver rock chip result.
The results are hugely positive especially given that Riversgold (ASX:RGL) already has approvals in place for drilling at Little Lepreau, which have come far quicker than it would have taken to secure approvals in Western Australia.
“Assays continue to impress and confirm that the Saint John project in New Brunswick, Canada, where multiple multi-metal targets are being defined over the ~25 km strike of the Project area, is a significant discovery, in an unexplored area,” RGL chairman David Lenigas said.
“I look forward to further updates from current site activities and I am very pleased with the great start to 2025.
“Drilling approvals mean we will be looking to drill beneath some of our key outcrops in the coming months and our exploration teams are refining the best targets to drill first.”
The Saint John project is just 50km east of the US border, with New Brunswick noted for its status as a progressive mining jurisdiction.
On top of its gold, silver and copper prospects, the province is also known for its historical antimony production, another critical metal in the crosshairs at Saint John.
Antimony is a critical metal used heavily in military tech, battery technologies, semiconductors and to strengthen alloys.
While the new Trump administration has threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian imports to the US, there’s every reason to believe that imports of a metal as critical as antimony will be welcomed from a friendlier country than China, which accounts for 48% of the world’s production and 63% of US imports.
Prices have lifted threefold to over US$40,000/t since Chinese export controls were introduced last year.
Prior to RGL’s entry, Saint John had seen limited exploration with recent work by Brunswick Exploration Inc in 2022 advancing the project area by reprocessing of Geological Survey of Canada data.
This has increased the prospectivity of the project area by highlighting structural information, magnetic high and low features, as well as an accurate DTM.
