Special Report: Pilbara gold explorer Riversgold has picked up rock chip results from its early doors Tambourah project that show up to 21.78% copper and 101g/t gold.
Exploration to date at Riversgold’s (ASX:RGL) Tambourah project had been centred on lithium across ~264km2 of prospective tenure in WA’s Pilbara region, southeast of Port Hedland.
Nine new lithium targets were identified during a 3,070-sample geochemical program, yet it’s the copper and gold prospectivity that has RGL champing at the bit.
RGL technical director Ed Mead put his boots on the ground recently to review current data compilation, evaluate historical exploration results and sample newly identified surface copper mineralised areas.
His visit comes on the back of analysis of historical copper intersections that turned up to 30.5m at 1.1% copper from exploration carried out in the 1970s.
This time, multiple prospects – including Logans Find, Lone Star, Hawkstone, Shaw Mullock and Trafalgar – have returned outstanding rock chip results with up to 21.78% copper and up to 101g/t gold.
Work has validated the historical exploration results and confirmed an anomalous copper and gold trend over a 12km strike length.
RGL chair David Lenigas says the company has been concentrating on the copper and gold potential at Tambourah for some time now as part of its broader exploration strategy.
“Achieving copper and gold results of this calibre is highly encouraging, and discovering surface evidence of mineralisation over a potential 12km strike is indeed very exciting,” Lenigas says.
“These new and highly significant surface results have the potential to amplify and further drive exploration in the area.
“Importantly, on ground geology has identified several gabbro intrusions that may be the source of this newly identified mineralisation.
“We plan to have people back on the ground in the coming weeks to continue with exploration.”
An update of the regional geological modelling is currently underway, which will provide the basis for a revised exploration strategy for the entire Tambourah project.
