Renascor Resources to start graphite processing plant build next month

  • RNU to kick off construction of PSG facility next month
  • Plant development co-funded by $5m Federal Government grant
  • Company plans to offer competitive alternative to China’s monopoly

Special Report: Major site preparation has been completed ahead of the start of construction next month for Renascor Resources’ purified spherical graphite (PSG) demonstration facility in South Australia.

The plant is part of the company’s vertically integrated Battery Anode Material (BAM) operation.

This will consist of an upstream graphite mining and processing operation and a downstream BAM facility in which graphite concentrate will be converted into PSG before being exported to lithium-ion battery anode manufacturers.

The facility will use feedstock from Renascor Resources’ (ASX:RNU) Siviour graphite deposit in South Australia for conversion into PSG through a continuous production process.

Construction is set to start in September following the award of a $5 million grant under the Australian Government’s International Partnerships in Critical Minerals Program to co-fund the facility’s development.

Now that civil groundwork and services installation are complete, the company has awarded the primary installation contract, covering structural, mechanical and piping works.

In addition, factory acceptance testing of overseas equipment has been completed with initial equipment now in Adelaide at the laydown facility, ready for installation.

Value added processing in South Australia

Initial shipments of bulk sample material produced from the Siviour graphite deposit are on route to South Australia.

“We are very pleased with the excellent progress at the PSG demonstration facility, with design, site preparation, procurement and equipment testing now complete,” MD David Christensen said.

“This facility will allow us to showcase and optimise our HF-free purification process and deliver a globally competitive Australian alternative to China’s current monopoly on PSG production.

“As the project moves into the construction phase this quarter, we are positioning Renascor to deliver value-added processing in South Australia and secure a role as a strategic supplier of high-purity battery anode material to international markets.”

On-site commissioning is scheduled to commence next quarter, pending the timely receipt of overseas equipment.
